Arizona-raised NBA star and Phoenix Suns forward, Channing Frye, talks about some of his favorite places to visit in the Grand Canyon state. Whether he is spending time with his family, teammates or friends, Channing enjoys spending time outside soaking up the sun and gorgeous Arizona weather.

Q: How long have you lived in Arizona?

A: I’ve spent the majority of my life in Arizona. I grew up in the Valley, cheering on the Suns, and attended college at the University of Arizona.  I’m now in my fifth season with the Suns and I take so much pride in wearing this state’s NBA uniform.

Q: Where did you live before this?

A: When I was drafted in 2005, I played in New York for the Knicks, and then I was acquired by the Trail Blazers and moved to Portland, where I met my wife.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do in AZ?

A: I enjoy golfing. Arizona has some of the greatest golf courses. I’m also somewhat of a foodie and love the great restaurant options that Arizona has to offer. We are so spoiled here with the amazing weather; I try and spend as much time as possible outdoors during the winter months.

Q: Any favorite sights?

A: We have some really good museums out here. On my days off, I like to visit some of them with my family. A couple places I take my kids are Children’s Museum of Phoenix and the Arizona Science Center.

Q: Are there any places you haven’t been that you’d like to visit in AZ?

A: I’ve been to the Grand Canyon, but didn’t get the chance to actually go down into it. That is something I would want to explore more.

Q: What are some of your favorite activities in AZ?

A: Definitely hiking, Arizona has some challenging, yet beautiful trails out here. I also enjoy golfing, frisbee golf and swimming. I am pretty much a fan of anything that gets you outside and enjoying the great weather.

Q: Describe AZ to someone who hasn’t been here before.  Any “must eat” restaurants?

A: Arizona is a melting pot of different people from different places, who are all here to have fun and enjoy the weather. As a big foodie, I think Arizona has a lot of great restaurants to visit. I’m a big fan of breakfast and La Grande Orange and Orange Table are couple of my favorite local spots.
