The Ridge, Canyon and Hill courses nestle into acres of lush high Sonoran Desert terrain encircling The Westin La Paloma.
Bring your video camera as well as your golf clubs to capture what Kent Instefjord, general manager of La Paloma Country Club, aptly refers to as “The Nature Channel.”
Quail, doves, toads, lizards, bobcats, javelina, coyotes, owls, hawks, and a large variety of birds share the course at pre-dawn and dusk hours. Mature mesquite and palo verde trees, multi-colored flowering plants and indigenous succulents – such as prickly pear, barrel, agave and cholla cacti – begin where the greens end.
Personally designed by world-renowned architect and player Jack Nicklaus, and opened in 1984, each course is appropriately named according to its style. And, with three nine-hole courses, guests can play three different 18-hole combination rounds in three days.
La Paloma Country Club is located at an elevation of approximately 2,300 feet, which explains why rolling hills define the Hill Course, in contrast to the valleys found on the Canyon Course. One might argue the best views of the Santa Catalina Mountains are found on the Ridge Course, but play all three first to find out.

Ridge Course, Number 4
199 yards, par 3
The Santa Catalina Mountains form a magnificent backdrop for this hole. It plays across the edge of a canyon 30 to 40 feet below the fairway to a well-contained green guarded on the back and left side by grassy hollows and mounds.
Canyon Course, Number 7
445 yards, par 4/5
Enjoy the view, but be sure your tee shot is long and to the right on this signature, yet challenging hole. A major wash to the left and a sloping hill to the right guard the fairway. The approach shot is a blind one to a green cut into a hillside 30 feet higher than the fairway.
Hill Course, Number 8
157 yards, par 3
On this short hole, two of the three strokes should be putts. A short iron over a deep valley to a green must be accurate in finding the pin, or the player will have a challenging putt on this moderately contoured green.
