Buffalo Soldier Historic Sites Tour, Fort Huachuca, Arizona
Learn more about the renowned Buffalo Soldiers, the All-Black unit stationed on Fort Huachuca in the late 1800s through the turn of the 20th Century, by taking a tour on the Fort.
Group tours of the Buffalo Soldier historic sites are held the third Saturday of each month, and participants are invited to meet at the City of Sierra Vista's Public Library, 2600 E. Tacoma Street, and board a bus for the tour. After the two-hour tour, plus additional time at the Fort Huachuca Museum, the bus will return participants to the library. The bus will depart for Fort Huachuca at 1:00 p.m. and participants should arrive at the library by 12:45 p.m. Tour participants must be United States citizens and have current and valid photo identification for all over the age of 13. Identification will be verified prior to boarding the bus. The tour fee is $15 and children ages 12 and under are free. Water and snacks will be provided. For reservations, which are required to ensure adequate seating, please call Arizona Sunshine Tours at 520-803-6713. Following an overview of the history of the Buffalo Soldiers at Brown Parade Field, the tour continues to several historic sites on the Post. Fort Huachuca served as the home station for the Buffalo Soldiers for nearly 53 continuous years and their service and accomplishments are legendary. Not only were the endeavors of the Buffalo Soldiers well known during the Indian Wars, the soldiers also joined General "Black Jack" Pershing in the Punitive Expedition into Mexico. Note: Fort Huachuca is an active military installation. United States citizens are permitted access onto the post with current and valid photo identification for all citizens over the age of 13.
