Springerville
Known as the Gateway to the White Mountains, Springerville offers many motels and restaurants along its main street. The town is also home to the Casa Malpais Indian Ruins and Museum, the Rene Cushman Art Collection and a historical park. It is located on the third largest volcanic field in the United States, with more than 400 vents and more than 1,156 square miles in size.
Located 14 miles from the New Mexico border, Springerville is a hub of activity on Arizona's eastern edge, providing a great starting point for day trips up and down the state line. Although not known for its Wild West days, the Springerville area was the home to the Clanton gang - which you may have heard about at the famed OK Corral - as well as many others. When you visit, make sure to stop at the chamber of commerce for "Pistols, Plows and Petticoats," the perfect tourbook for your self-guided journey through the history and lore of the Springerville area.
